Wow ! How much tree planting has taken place over the past year.

You will remember in February 2020 when 21st Century Thame launched it’s #ThameTrees project with a free giveaway of 1000 whips to anyone who came along to the Volunteer Fair at Racquets Fitness Centre.

We have to thank Lucy Electric and all the other business sponsors for making the free giveaway possible.

We’ve seen lots of photos of those trees being planted and some nurtured ready for planting in more public places.  You can see some of those photos on the 21st Century Thame website.

Since then the Thame Green Living team have been negotiating with councils and developers, businesses and schools, and are gradually building up projects that will see trees planted in many public places around Thame.

We’ve seen Lord Williams school eco club working with the Land and Environment students and some Duke of Edinburgh participants planting trees up at the school again with help from Christmas Common Barn and the Tree Council.

The Woodland Trust have been instrumental in encouraging tree planting around our area.  420 trees were planted at the end of 2020 across all local villages as part of the #ThameTrees project – lots of great hedging specially designed for the wildlife.

Another 210 Woodland Trust trees will be arriving for Lord Williams School and another 420 for #ThameTrees during April and it will be ‘all hands on deck’ to get these in the ground as soon as we possibly can.

Thame Wombles, a 300 strong litter picking group, have also become involved in #ThameTrees by salvaging sapling protectors that are no longer in use in the undergrowth where they are litter picking and delivering them to the Thame Equipment Bank.  The Thame Equipment Bank will store the protectors until trees are planted that need them.

So, how do you get involved you say ?
