We can all play our part in helping to care for our precious planet – reducing carbon emissions, increasing biodiversity and helping others to do the same.

From 31st October – 12 November 2021, The UK is hosting the 26th UN Climate Change Conference of the Parties (COP26) to united the world in tackling climate change.

What’s COP26 got to do with you, us and Thame?

Many Thame residents are passionate about climate change – from having its own Green Living Plan to groups such as 21st Century Thame running the #ThameTrees project. So to coincide with COP26, there will be Thame COP26.

What is Thame COP26?

South Oxfordshire District Council have allocated funding to Wild Pear CIC, supported by 21st Century Thame, to run a Thame COP26 event. Anyone who is interested in the plight to reduce carbon emissions, increase biodiversity and take action on climate are welcome to join the team.

Organisations
One of the aims of Thame COP26 is to connect with as many local organisations as possible to help identify what they can be doing to reduce emissions and restore nature between now and March 2022. Working with schools, faith groups, business groups and volunteer groups to define what they can do and commit to doing it could have a big impact!

Young people
In partnership with Lord Williams’s School, the Thame COP26 team want to inspire young people to find out about and get involved in addressing the climate and ecological crisis.

Awareness
Awareness is key to raising the profile of the work that is already going on and will kick-start from COP26 to restore nature and reduce emissions. Building awareness will also provide an opportunity to celebrate the sense of united effort in Thame to tackle the climate crisis.
