If you’ve got time to give back to the young people of our town AND you want to have great fun doing it then join the Scouts Volunteers! The following article has been put together by Thame Scouts for us to share on Thame.net and hopefully encourage more of our community members to get involved.

Scouts are do-ers and give-it-a-go-ers. Yes, we go camping, hiking, swimming, abseiling, and canoeing. But we also get to hang out with our friends every week – having fun, playing games, working in a team, and taking on new challenges.

Every week Oxfordshire Scouts gives nearly 7,000 6- to 25-year-olds the skills they need for school, college, university, the job interview, the important speech, the tricky challenge, and the big dreams: the skills they need for life.

With fun and exciting programmes of activities and adventures, it’s no surprise that Scouts has been shown to be good for young people but it’s just as good for our volunteers too!

All our activities are run by volunteers – they shape young people’s lives for the better and find out a whole lot about themselves in the process, too. Our door is open to people of all ages, genders, races and backgrounds. You don’t need to have been a Scout or know how to put up a tent.

Wendy, lead volunteer for Oxfordshire says:

‘It’s incredibly rewarding seeing young people gain skills for life and confidence whilst having fun on activities and adventures. Being involved in Scouts has changed my life and improved my mental well-being too; giving me opportunities to enjoy the great outdoors, make new friends and get involved in my local community too.’

We’re only able to change lives because people like you lend a hand. We’re talking about tea makers, tidy-uppers, minibus drivers, Zoom navigators, fundraisers and treasurers. We’re talking about students who want to boost their CV, and parents who volunteer to spend more time with their family.

Scouts round the fire - Thame Scouts

The good news is you shape what you do and the time you give. Scouts happens when a lot of us give a little. We promise you’ll get more out than you put in and the difference you make is priceless.

We’ll provide the training, you show up, get stuck in, and make memories for life.

If you’d like to get involved then you can see current opportunities here or email jointheadventure@oxonscouting.org.uk
