With summer looming in the horizon, I love to do as much sport outside where possible.
Here are some ideas and clubs to get started…

Outdoor Swimming

This has been a craze for the last couple of years, people finding beautiful lake spots for a cool dip.
I do admit that I love it as well but it is a bit worrying with all the talk of sewage problems and big companies dumping sewages into our rivers and lakes.
However, there is Surfers Against Sewage which is a great charity to protect our waters.
Also, it can be dangerous with underlining currents and people drowning.
So to be safe always go with friends and if you have an outdoor swim float take it with you.
Be careful of fishing lines and boats too.

There is Benson for swimming and paddle boarding, Clifton Hampden, near the Barley Mow however this can get busy as it also seems very popular with Londoners. Wallingford Bridge which is better for little swimmers, as it has a little beach.  Then we have the more professional swims, which you have to pay for but still very nice and reassuring with volunteer lifeguards around, and you have to have a swim float for the swimming. Queensford Lakes, Oxford and Bicester Outdoor Swimming Lake.

There are plenty of outdoor Lido, swimming pools to enjoy too. Hinskey Pool, Riverside Pool, Wycombe Rye Lido.

Tennis

There are many tennis clubs in the vacinity, Thame and Long Crendon are a good place to start.
There are lots of events too for young children, teenagers or adults.
For example coming up is the children’s Wimbledon on 17th July and then a mixed adults Wimbledon tournament with bbq, strawberries and cream in Long Crendon.
You do have to be a member to play or at least have one member to play with.
Teenagers are welcome to play and join in the fun too!

Other Outdoor Events

Adult’s Netball on 4pm on Sundays at Thame Leisure Centre.

Also keep an eye out on the Events Calendar and the Clubs and groups page.
