It’s that time of year again! The excitement of the September Fair, but the challenge of getting around the centre of towm and parking. The following infomation is based on the recent newsletter from the Town Hall. 

Which roads will be affected?
North Street, Wellington Street and Southern RoadThere will be subject to a Traffic Regulation Order and Temporary Road Closure from 7.00am on Wednesday 20th September.

The Cornmarket, Upper High Street and the High Street will be closed from 4pm on Wednesday 20th September and reopen at 12 moon Sunday 24th September.

Vehicles parked and disregarding the temporary restriction, or causing an obstruction, will be removed.

How will parking be affected?

The High Street and Upper High Street Car Parks will be closed from 4.00pm on Wednesday 20 September 2023. Residents’ parking permits for these car parks will not be valid during the closure period. Please ensure that the area is clear of all vehicles including those of your family and visitors.

Where can visitors park?
There will be an extended parking area at Southern Road Recreation Ground where vistors can park. Disabled parking will be in North Street for a limited period between 9.00am and 4.00pm.

What if I live, work or need to deliver goods on those roads?
If you have access to off-street parking within the grounds of a home or business then you can apply for an access permit. The parking area or access must not interfere with the temporary road restrictions or access. Permits will need to be requested per vehicle from the Information Centre at the Town Hall. If you need a permit then please apply asap!

Delivery vehicles will be allowed into North Street for a limited time to either deliver or collect goods but Town centre deliveries must adhere to Road Closure conditions.

Will the taxis still be running?
The usual taxi service will continue but move from the High Street to North Street for this time.

Barriers will be in position at the following locations:

High Street at the junction with Bell Lane
North Street at the junction with Wellington Street
Upper High Street at the junction with East Street
Rooks Lane at the Upper High Street junction
Nelson Street at the Upper High Street junction

Other traffic management arrangements for this period will be as follows:

Diverted Traffic Routes: No parking at any time on Wellington Street and Southern Road.

Entry to Nelson Street, Broadwaters Avenue, or anywhere in that area of the town should follow the diversion signs.
