08/05/13…’I will oppose Haddenham airport’ says Thame’s MP
THAME’S MP, John Howell, has called for a stop to any proposed plan to build a new airport in Haddenham, just two miles north-east of Thame.
?The idea of an airport being built just two miles from Thame is extremely alarming,” he said in statement today.
“I expect that a large number of my constituents will be as appalled as I am by the alleged contents of the report. This is an inappropriate location for an airport; far from where it is needed and half way to Birmingham airport. I will be monitoring developments very closely and will oppose attempts to build the airport here.?
Haddenham is being considered as a possible location for a programme of expansion of airport capacity in the South East. A report, ?Heathrow 2025, Masterplan Options & Indicative Layouts? sets out 10 options for the expansion of Heathrow, one of these being the construction of a four-runway airport in Haddenham.
John Howell went on to say: “It is believed that the report was compiled six months ago, following its commissioning by Heathrow airport from consultancy Mott MacDonald. Heathrow?s decision to consider options beyond the expansion of the existing airport is likely to be met with considerable opposition.”
