12/06/13…CRICKET: Thame Town settles for a draw against Banbury
THAME Town Cricket Club put on its best performance of the season to draw, in a tense game away at Banbury last weekend (08/06). The home side won the toss and elected to bat first and when they were 150-0 it looked a good decision, but some good tight bowling from George Patey, John Maynard, and skipper Mike Higgs, helped peg Banbury back to a competitive 227 for 7. Higgs finished with figures of 6 for 93.
In reply Thame started slowly but some good explosive batting from Sam Lachlan, Will Sutcliffe (36), Alistair Thomas (35) and Deon Laubscher (49) kept the visitors within touching distance for most of the game. However Thame eventually lost too many wickets and had to settle for a draw, finishing on 199 for 9 at the end of the match.
The Seconds had a frustrating game against Twyford Seconds, losing by 80 runs after a good start, and the Thirds lost to a strong Kingston Bagpuize Second team by eight wickets.
