29/11/10…Council reviews polling stations
SOUTH Oxfordshire District Council is asking residents to comment on the places where they vote by carrying out a general review of polling locations over the next couple of months.
This includes looking at the polling stations where people vote to make sure that they are suitable, such as offering reasonable facilities for voting and good access for electors who are disabled. It will also look at whether the cost of providing a polling station at locations with less than 200 voters is justifiable.
The council is encouraging electors to make comments on the convenience of voting at elections within the district and, if possible, to recommend alternative places that could be used as polling stations.
David Buckle, Returning Officer for South Oxfordshire District Council, says: ?We have a responsibility to make sure all the polling stations we use are suitable and we?d like to hear your views as part of this review. Let us know what you think of the place you currently vote, and if there are alternatives we could consider.?
NOTES: People can view details of the existing electoral arrangements between 9:30am and 4:00pm Monday to Friday at the council Offices in Crowmarsh Gifford, or for more information, can call 01491 823651 or visit the council?s website www.southoxon.gov.uk
