A Thame resident, a leading member of Thame For Europe, who campaign for ‘a Peoples’ Vote’, has written an open letter to Thame’s MP, John Howell, after the MP continued to support the Prime Minister in Tuesday night’s  vote against his Brexit plans. (UPDATE BELOW THE LETTER)

Roy Mottram

The letter reads as follow:

Dear John Howell MP,

I note that you voted last night against Parliament taking control of some of the parliamentary agenda. Mr Johnson’s authoritarian attempt to shut Parliament down for long enough to silence opposition to his policy rather forced their hand. I’m disappointed that you put party before parliamentary sovereignty.

The government lost that vote & Parliament now has the opportunity to ensure that the A50 deadline is extended to allow completion of any negotiation that Johnson undertakes.

If you vote against this deadline extension, then I’d like to hear your arguments for why Parliament will be better placed to avoid “No Deal” at the end of October rather than now, when the opportunity is in front of you.

Regards
Roy Motteram
Cheshire Road, Thame

(UPDATE: John Howell voted FOR a general election in Wednesday night’s debate and has since criticised the Speak of the House in an article in the Henley Standard LINK HERE)

  1. Chris, thank you very much for your feedback which we appreciate. We report actions etc regarding our MP John Howell whenever they are drawn to our attention as you will see from this link: https://www.thame.net/?s=Howell but we are basically a ‘one man band’ and can’t have eyes and ears everywhere. We depend on local people to keep us informed about what’s going on in Thame and the surrounding villages, and on social media. But it is not always appropriate as a politically neutral news service to publish what goes on there, as you will appreciate! John Howell does issue news letters on his website https://www.johnhowell.org.uk/news which can be informative if you’re interested in his daily goings-on. Thanks again. Sonja

John Howell MP has dangerously mischaracterised the key principle of the Constitution in his communication to constituents. See the article from the Professor of English Law at the University of Oxford.

  3. Good letter Roy. I think we should more coverage of the actions of our MP wiht regard to brexit matters. The constituency that elected him is 57% remain yet he persistently puts his and his party’s interest before those of his Constituents and the country. We have a representative parliamentary democracy which means he is supposed to represents us in Parliament. Regardless of political persuasion, on this most important matter he does not do this but he is mere government lobby fodder. I think thame.net should be doing more to cover and question the actions of Mr Howell so elector’s can be well informed come the vote.
