DOZENS of Thame passengers were left stranded at their bus stop earlier today when buses from Aylesbury were delayed, following a serious collision in Friars Square, Aylesbury, involving a bus.

A man in his early twenties is seriously injured in hospital after being trapped under one of two vans also involved in the incident that happended around 9.30am.

It appears that a bus and a van hit each other at the traffic lights next to the Bourg Walk bridge, the van coming to rest on it’s side in the middle of the central reservation.

Eyewitnesses are reported to have said that one of the vans hit a pedestrian who was crossing the road and that he appeared to be trapped under the second van.

The driver of the bus and the driver of the Mercedes van were also taken to Stoke Mandeville Hospital with minor injuries. The latter, a 36 year-old man, was later arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving and is in police custody.

The road had to be closed in both directions and Police, Fire and the Ambulance service were on the scene and remained closed for some time to allow officers to carry out their investigation and for repairs to traffic lights and other roadside furniture.

Anyone who witnessed the collision and has not yet spoken to police is asked to contact Sgt Chris Simpson via the Police Enquiry Centre on 0845 8 505 505. If you do not want to speak to police or leave your name, call the charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111
