THAMES Valley Police prevented and closed down some ten reported unlicensed parties this bank holiday weekend, May 23,24,25, 2009, including one on the Thame Showground.

Anticipating the bank holiday weekend to be popular with those organising and attending unlicensed parties, or ‘raves’, the police carried out Operation Robust. Officers patrolled, what they called, ‘areas of vulnerability’ targeting known sites and by intervening early, stopped the raves before they could get underway.

Inspector Steven Capper of HQ Operations department said: “Thanks to the efforts of our officers, our communities did not suffer the disruption, noise and damage historically associated with Bank Holiday weekends. Those intent on continuing to hold illegal parties need to be aware that Thames Valley Police will continue to implement these tactics, in closing down unlicensed parties and seizing sound equipment whenever the opportunity arises.
“We ask for the help of the community by reporting any unlicensed events or unusual activity, such as large convoys of cars, as early as possible, as this will assist us to respond in the critical early phases.
“I would urge anyone with any information concerning unlicensed parties over the forthcoming weekends and months to contact us via the Police Enquiry Centre on 0845 8 505 505.”
