Thame Tennis Club’s Strong Season Continues

THAME Tennis Club’s Men?s 3 pair team are continuing to have a very strong summer season in the Oxford League, the result of their latest match being a resounding victory of 8.5 sets to 0.5 sets over North Oxford D. Team: T Moore, N King, N Morgan, R Bradley (c), L Wright, I Catchpole.
Also in Division 2, the Ladies 3 pair have been achieving victories ? their first, a 5 sets to 4 win in a close match played at home against North Oxford C and, last weekend an overwhelming 9 sets ? 0 win against Oxford Sports C. Team: F Pidgeon, R Suter, C Carder (c), K Pinner, D Munro, C Gray, J Kelly. Elsewhere in the league, the Mixed 3 pair secured a draw at home to Witney B over the Bank Holiday weekend.

In the 2 pair matches, the Mixed team of J McLeod, S Nannery, N Belcher and R Tupper were away to Henley, winning 3 of their 4 rubbers. On a very hot Saturday, the Men?s B 2 pair, captained by Adrian Broadway dropped only 2 sets in their 4 rubbers to 0 win over Goring B, with Adrian and John Patrick managing to claw back from set point against them at the tiebreak going on to win their match against Goring?s 2nd pair 7-5, 4-6, 7-6. First pair: F Moore, R Wilkins. Unfortunately, the Ladies 2 pair, in Division 3 could not overcome Banbury A, losing 2 sets to 6, with Marianne Izzat-Brown and Pip Barfield taking the 2 sets against the hosts? second pair. First pair: L Broadway (c), J McLeod.

Finally, injuries to one player in each of the pairs in the Men?s C 2 pair match against Mapledurham C, meant, frustratingly, that after being all square after the first 2 matches, Thame then had to concede the 2 final sets in each of their second matches.
