THAMES Valley Police and Thame Town Council are hoping that someone has information about an act of vandalism at Elms Park yesterday.

The council’s Maintenance Team discovered that the safety surfacing in the play area had been purposely damaged. As a result the area has had to be closed off for safety reasons.

Any witnesses or anyone with any information about this incident is asked to call Thames Valley Police on the non-emergency number, 101.

  1. These specific areas of rubber matting were already badly damaged due to lack of maintenance. It seems unlikely there have been any inspections for some while because the matting is damaged in several area, concrete edges are exposed, the swings are twisted and out of line and covered in pigeon crap. The whole play area has been run down in recent years, probably because certain decision makers knew that the Elms development was in the bag. The logic would be that there’s point in investing in maintenance if the developers are going to pick up the bill and glory for refurbishment. Then look at the basket ball court which hasn’t seen so much as a squirt of weed killer for several years.
