IMAGE: Dan Manea with his book “Sinaia Land of the Elites”.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n <\/strong><\/p>\n Members of the public will have the chance to get a free copy of the \u201cSinaia Land of the Elites\u201d book by Dan Manea, if joining Thame-Sinaia Friendship Association and paying your \u00a310 annual subscription fee. Dan Manea, a well-known Romanian architect, presented his book at TAL Festival in 2017. He is connected to a number of local Sinaia community fundraising projects like \u201cDonate one penny for Caraiman\u201d aimed to restore the 92 ft Heroes Cross on Caraiman Peak, built at 7,500 ft altitude in 1928, to commemorate Romanian soldiers fallen during the First World War.<\/p>\n Thame and Sinaia have been twinned since September 2012. TSFA has been recognized by the Thame Town Council as the main voluntary organisation responsible for liaising with similar organizations in Sinaia. Its aims include promoting friendship and understanding between the citizens of Sinaia and Thame as well as encouraging exchanges of all kinds between the two communities.<\/p>\n Here is a snippet of the Thame-Sinaia projects run together with ASPE, the association\u2019s volunteer counterpart in Sinaia: hosting Sinaians attending TAL, Thame-Sinaia calendar, Thamesians attending Sinaia Forever Festival and publishing Romanian translations of Thame authors by Sinaia publications. Any new members will be more than welcome to bring their own ideas and run their own projects.<\/p>\n Sinaia with a population of over 14,000 is a town and a mountain resort in Prahova County, Romania. The town was named after Sinaia Monastery, around which it was built; the monastery in turn is named after the Biblical Mount Sinai. King Carol I of Romania built his summer home, Pele\u015f Castle, near the town. Sinaia is about 100 miles northwest of Bucharest, in a mountainous area on the Prahova River valley, just east of the Bucegi Mountains. The altitude varies between 767 m and 860 m. The town is a popular destination for hiking, mountain biking and winter sports, especially downhill skiing.<\/p>\nThame-Sinaia Friendship Association will be present with a stall at the Thame Volunteer Fair to be held at Racquets Fitness Centre on Saturday 11 September between 12pm and 3pm.<\/strong><\/h2>\n
