07/05/13….Music In The Park ‘strikes gold’ for official opening
THE organisers of Thame’s Music in the Park have confirmed that they have indeed struck gold, with Tony Hadley, singer, songwriter and lead singer of chart-toppers Spandau Ballet, having agreed to open the event
Tony lives in the area and was keen to support this event, which is in aid of a local good cause and also offers a great platform to local musical talent.
For example, the John Hampden School Choir will be singing a theme song specially created for the occasion by professional local composer, Barry Gibson. Called ‘Music in the Park’, it has a catchy join-in-chorus with actions (claps, slaps and clicks) and four verses highlighting sounds that you might hear in the park such as weather sounds, people sounds, wildlife sounds. and finally, instruments in every style.
In between the verses are, what Barry Gibson describes as ‘sound-picture-windows’, where voice sounds will mingle with real sounds recorded around Thame. Acoustic instrumentalists of all ages who would like to join in from the audience-side can email sQuarish productions (info@squarish.co.uk) to request a free copy of the words, music, chords and a link to a backing-track. When emailing, please indicate what instrument you’ll be playing.
Budding musicians or singers can also bring along their voice or acoustic instrument and do a spot at ‘Ben?s Busk Stop. They might just get seen and get on the shortlist for next year?s event.
Overall, the event, which starts at 12pm next Sunday, May 12, features more than eight hours of great entertainment, covering just about every musical genre imaginable, as well as dance. Combined with the real ale tents, refreshment and food stalls, children?s activities and trade stalls, it means that, whatever your musical preferences, you?ll be able to enjoy a fab day out with the family. And with the long-range weather forecast looking good, all bodes well for the best event yet!
