Santa Claus And The Elves With Big Ears! (Contributed)
THIS year’s Christmas production by key Stage one pupils at John Hampden Primary School, Thame, was a musical entitled ‘Elf School’, written by two of the teachers, Miss Hocking and Mrs Stanway-Williams.
But the real stars of the show were some terrifically talented children!
The young cast, who ranged between the agea of five to seven-years-old, thrilled their audiences over two nights with an amazing show of music, dancing and dialogue.
The play centres around two elves with unusually large ears, who are about to start at their local elf school. When they arrive they are greeted by their head teacher (Santa Claus) and face the wrath of some very mean elves. The teachers host a school dance in the hope that all of the elves will bond and get along.
When the new elves prove to be fantastic dancers, they receive a huge cheer and finally gain acceptance by their peers.
The story is a parody of a real school scenario and includes lessons on how to pack a sleigh and the true meaning of Christmas (the nativity story).
Quotes from children:
“It’s been really good and there are quite a lot of characters. I think there’s lots of acting and the songs are very funny, especially Santa Claus the Great” (Joe Harrington aged 7)
“It’s good, with lots of speaking and actions. It makes sense and I loved doing it.” (Lucy Nichols aged 7)
?I like the play a lot. I think the story is a good idea and my favourite bit has been learning all of the songs.” (Zak Saeed, aged 7)
Co-writer and teacher, Miss Hocking said: “The children were fantastic. It never ceases to amaze us how many words and directions they manage to learn in such a short space of time. We are all very proud of our Christmas stars!”
