Don Kaufman 1943 – 2006.
Don, who died on New Years Day 2006, was one of the original group that met in ‘The Lions of Bledlow’ pub in 1989 to discuss trying to acquire the remains of the Watlington Branch for use as a Heritage Railway, following its ceasing to be used for transporting materials to the Chinnor Cement Works.
From this meeting was formed the Chinnor and Princes Risborough Railway Association of which Don was initially the Fund Raising Manager.
Don became Chairman of the Association in June 1993, a position he occupied until his resignation in January 2005. This period saw the purchase of the track from Chinnor to Thame Junction and the commencement of public passenger services in August 1994.
