Famous ‘Lord Bills’ Old Boy Presents Music Award

For the third time in five years, the Music Service received a Diploma of Merit from the National Music Council at the annual LEA Music Awards.
The award to the Oxfordshire County Council-run service was presented last week by Howard Goodall, who composed among other things, the theme music for BBC’s ‘Black Adder’ series and is himself a former member of the Oxfordshire County Youth Orchestra.

The Music Service was praised for its range of music and the way it reaches out to people of all ages in the county.

Dick Hallam, who heads the Oxfordshire County Music Service, and assistant head Liz Stock, attended the awards ceremony at the British Phonographic Industry Building in London

Dick said: ?It was very gratifying to accept the award on behalf of all our staff ? what a fantastic early Christmas present – and to hear the words of praise for the service from the awards panel.

?The panel was particularly interested to hear that we have the equivalent of a school governing body, a group of people who reflect the diversity of the activities we offer and the communities we serve. It means a wide range of perspectives are represented and that people feel a sense of ownership.?
