Thame Markets - Weekly market - Tuesdays

The Market has been held on Tuesdays since 1230, the original site being the Buttermarket and
Cornmarket areas. The Buttermarket is traditionally sited on the cooler north side, the Cornmarket
on the south. The area of Middle Row, which separates the two, originally consisted of booths
which were put up and taken down each week. They were gradually replaced by more permanent
structures, one of these being the Birdcage.

The Market is now held in the Upper High Street car park and is a bustling and colourful affair accommodating over 40 traders.

Merchandise is many and varied and includes fruit and vegetables, clothes, underwear, sweets, garden ornaments, books, pictures, fresh fish, fabric, aromatherapy products, linen, picked eggs, household goods, knitting wool, plants, handbags, pet foods, garden ornaments, basketware, bric-a-brac and the very popular Thame WI produce stall.
