Haddenham St Mary’s C.E First School
Giving Your Children a First Class Education in a Christian
Context
Haddenham St Mary’s Church of England First School provides education
for children of all denominations between the ages of 4 and 8 in a
supportive, Christian context. With highly qualified teachers and
a nominal roll of 110 children in four “year groups”, class sizes
are generally of 30 or under.
Overlooking open fields at the southern end of the village and next
to St. Mary’s Church, the school provides an encouraging environment
in which your children can learn and grow. Emphasis is placed on caring
for others and confidence building as well as academic achievement
within the National Curriculum.
A committed Governing Body comprised of 12 local people with a broad
range of backgrounds manages the School. It is supported by an active
Parent Teacher Association, which raises substantial funds to enhance
pupil’s learning experience through subsidised educational visits
and provide additional facilities to complement national Curriculum
activities.
Mission Statement
Haddenham St Mary’s Church of England First School, founded in 1868,
provides education for children within a Christian ethos. Collective
Worship and Religious Education therefore play an integral part.
The School aims to create a learning environment, within which a
broad and balanced curriculum is adapted to the individual needs of
each child. All children are encouraged to develop self-awareness
and initiative in the quest for new knowledge. The overall aim is
to awaken skills and personal qualities, which they will require for
a purposeful and constructive life.
St. Mary’s School, as part of the village community, seeks to encourage
a feeling of respect for people of all ages and beliefs. It aims to
stimulate the spirit of service and to foster an appreciation of justice,
harmony and fair play, both within the school and in an ever-changing
world.
The Curriculum
The classroom teacher endeavours to create an atmosphere where individuals
are recognised, appreciated and encouraged. Learning to work and play
together is a prime consideration.
The School’s aim is to create a happy secure environment where the
children are stimulated to learn, and encouraged to find things out
for themselves. We are looking for growth in appropriate habits and
attitudes, developing naturally out of their learning experiences.
The School’s curriculum includes all the core and foundation subjects
specified in the National Curriculum, with the appropriate levels
of study for each age group. The core subjects are English, Mathematics,
and Science. The foundation subjects are I.C.T, Design & Technology,
History, Geography, Art, Music and P.E. In addition, your child will
study Religious Education.
