Henley Dragons
Henley Dragons are a Dragon Boat club that are based in central Henley.
Admittedly we are not in Thame, but we are the closest club to you.

Dragon boat racing is one of the fastest growing water sports on the
country. As a club, we openly welcome members of all ages and abilities. We
race at the highest levels nationally and internationally.

Please look at our website www.henleydragons.com for more
information.

The Thame & District Classic Motor Club

The Thame & District Classic Motor Club is for all types of Classic Vehicle. We have members with Motor Bikes, Cars, Vans and even Buses.

They meet at the Six Bells in Thame High Street on the last Wednesday of every month at 8.00 pm all are welcome.

Membership is £5.00 per annum for family membership.

The Club is planning various trips out this summer on Sundays for Lunch then on to somewhere of interest. They hope to arrange a week-end trip to France as well.

The Chairman is Nigel Champken-Woods who may be contacted on 01844- 215629.

We are a mixed group of people with varying abilities and a variety of equipment but all share a keen interest in photography. We aim to improve our understanding of all aspects of photography so our programme includes several evenings on topics chosen by the group. Visiting speakers are invited to contribute their experience and insight.

Competitions are another feature of Club life. The subjects are varied and by contributing to these, either with slides or prints, we gain a better understanding of what makes for a good photograph.

Digital photography is gaining ground as it becomes easier and cheaper to produce quality work in this format.

If you would like to find out more about the club contact Adrian Williams on 01844 212345 or simply email us c/o Thame.net

The Lions Club of Thame & District
Current President until 30th June 2004 is Alan Chandler
There are two meetings per month on the first and third Wednesday. Meetings are held at Racquets starting at 8 pm.

As with all Lions Clubs we are affilated to Lions Clubs International which is the largest volunteer service organisation in the world. Thame Club is part of District 105a covering London north of the Thames up to Banbury in Oxfordshire and east as far as Redbridge, taking in Bucks and Hertsfordshire. District 105a is part of Multiple District 105 covering the UK and Ireland. 105a is second in membership to District 105i being the whole of Ireland, with some 1800 members.
Lions raise money for all types of charitable causes and none of the money raise is used to support the clubs. The clubs are funded by the members and their supporters.
The Lions are recognised for their work with preventable blindness in fact Helen Keller in 1927 challenged all Lions to become Knights of the Blind and to work towards eradicating preventable blindness. To this end Lions Clubs International established a fund known as LCIF which based on funds raised by Lions Clubs worldwide donate towards solving problems of blindness approximately $40 million each year.
Lions was founded in 1917 by a Chigago Business man named Melvin Jones and it is his name that Lions can receive their highest honour the Melvin Jones award.
As well as the international element all clubs raise and distribute money to local causes, these can be social
activities for the elder or disabled, to providing man power for projects in the community.

Lions website address is www.lions.org.uk.
