Join Cyber Crime discussion online

THE South East Regional Organised Crime Unit (SEROCU) is inviting residents and businesses to join a member of the Cyber Crime Unit for an online discussion on cyber crime.

NCA  police 380x225Craig Jones, Head of the SEROCU Cyber Crime Unit, will be available along with other panellists, to speak to the public about how they can stay safe online and protect themselves from cyber criminals.  Craig will be offering advice around online security and will share ‘warning signs’ that might mean that somebody is at risk online.

The Cover it Live session will be held on Wednesday 4 March between 2pm and 3pm.  Those wishing to participate can submit their questions on Twitter using #SEROCUCyberCrime or by visiting SEROCU’s Cover it Live page on 4 March between 2pm and 3pm.

Craig said: “We’re hoping that residents and businesses around the South East will really take advantage of this opportunity to engage with us about a topic that is becoming increasingly important to all of us; online safety and cyber security

“We’re encouraging members of the public to submit their questions beforehand on Twitter using #SEROCUCyberCrime or tweeting us @SouthEastROCU.

“We will be trying to answer as many questions as possible, so please get involved.

The week will also bring opportunities for members of the public to go along to pop-up information shops, which are being held in Reading on Friday (6/3) and Saturday (7/3) between 10am and 4pm at the Broad Street Mall.

Representatives from SEROCU, Crimestoppers, cyber security firms and information services such as NED Forum, FACT and Get Safe Online will be on hand to offer online security advice, and visitors can bring along a digital device for a free ‘health check’.

Malware clean-up tools for businesses and members of the public, as well as information and advice on many aspects of online safety, are available at  www.cyberstreetwise.com and www.getsafeonline.org. Online crime can be reported at www.actionfraud.police.uk
