Appeal for witnesses to M40 fatal crash

THAMES Valley Police is appealing for witnesses following a fatal collision on the M40 yesterday (25/1). At about 7.15pm, a silver BMW convertible crossed from the southbound carriageway between junctions 3 and 4 onto the northbound carriageway and collided with a black Renault Clio. Both vehicles then caught fire.

 The driver of the Clio, a man believed to be in his sixties, was pronounced dead at the scene. A passenger in the Clio, a woman, was taken to hospital but later died.

No formal identification has yet taken place and officers are working to establish the next of kin.

The motorway was closed in both directions for more than four hours.

A 32-year-old man from Ealing, London, was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and driving whilst unfit through drugs. He has been released on bail until February 11.
